Meet Jayme Geeslin, Founder of Step 1 College Counseling LLC
My name is Jayme Geeslin and I have been working in higher education for more than 15 years. I received my bachelor's degree in communication and political science from Virginia Tech and completed my master’s degree in higher education administration, also from Virginia Tech. After beginning my career in the undergraduate admissions office at Virginia Tech, I subsequently served as an Assistant Director in the admissions office at Georgia Tech. During my time at Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, I reviewed and evaluated thousands of applications for admission each year.
In 2015, I move from the college to high school side of the admissions process when I served as the Director of College Counseling at Whitefield Academy in Mableton, GA. In this role, I assisted 9th-12th grade students and their families through the entire search and application process, beginning with the selection of the necessary high school courses all the way through application essays and financial aid. Other areas which I supported my students were guidance in building their college lists, developing effective communication with admission counselors, interview preparation, hosting application and essay workshops, and assisting families with utilizing financial aid and scholarship resources.
I have extensive experience working with families from both the college and high school sides of the admissions process and have loved counseling students and parents through it. Although it can be hectic, I strive to make the process for my families as calm as possible by preparing and equipping students and their families with the necessary tools to be successful through the admissions process.
